Our office uses CEREC inlays for the following reasons: 1) Usually one appointment, 2) Biocompatible, (the dental material closest to human enamel), 3) Natural looking (no gray edges), 4) Little or no sensitivity after placement, 5) Precisely made with the aid of a computer (CAD-CAM), 6) Returns the tooth to it’s original strength, 7) According to research, the longest lasting dental restoration.
Inlays can be utilized to conservatively repair teeth that have large defective fillings or have been damaged by decay or trauma. Inlays are an ideal alternative to conventional silver and composite fillings. Also, inlays are more conservative than crowns because less tooth structure is removed in the preparation of inlays.
Reasons for inlay restorations:
Broken or fractured teeth.
What does getting an inlay involve?
An inlay procedure usually requires only one appointment. While the tooth is numb, your dentist will prepare the tooth by removing any decay and/or old filling materials. The space will then be thoroughly cleaned and carefully prepared, shaping the surface to properly fit an inlay restoration.
Once these details are accomplished, your tooth will be scanned with a camera and then the inlay is virtually created on a computer. Your dentist will have a precision milling machine fabricate the inlay from a solid block of porcelain in 15 minutes or less. The inlay will be adjusted to fit exactly, and it is permanently bonded to the tooth at this appointment. Occasionally a few adjustments may be necessary to ensure a proper fit and to ensure that your bite is comfortable.
You will receive care instruction at the conclusion of your treatment. Good oral hygiene practices, a proper diet, and regular dental visits will aid in the life of your new inlay.
